Welcome to Relative Choice! We’re excited you’re here to build meaningful connections and create your chosen family. Before we get started, let’s talk about how this works – think of it as a friendly conversation about ground rules rather than a boring legal document (though yes, this is still a legal agreement – we just believe it doesn’t have to put you to sleep).
1. What Relative Choice Is (and Isn’t)
Relative Choice is a platform that helps adults find and connect with other adults to build meaningful family relationships. Think of us as matchmakers for chosen family – we help you find the siblings, grandparents, adult children, or other family connections you’re looking for, but without any legal strings attached.
Important: The relationships you form here are meaningful but not legal. Finding a “grandmother” through Relative Choice doesn’t create any legal rights, obligations, or responsibilities. These are social and emotional connections only. We’re here to help you build real relationships, not legal ones.
2. Who Can Join Our Family
You must be at least 18 years old to use Relative Choice.
Why the age limit? While we’re all about building families, we need to do our best to keep everyone safe. If you’re looking to connect with families that have children under 18, remember that you’ll need to connect with their parents or legal guardians – never directly with minors.
3. On and Off-Platform Conduct
Let’s continue the safety discussion! While no one can guarantee 100% protection from all potential issues, we promise to do our absolute best to keep you and yours out of harm’s way!
By using Relative Choice, you understand and agree that your account can be terminated immediately and without refund for any behavior that:
- Threatens user safety
- Demonstrates predatory conduct
- Shows a pattern of harassment or abuse
- Violates our core values of inclusion and respect
- Indicates a risk to our community
This applies to conduct both on and off our platform. Any past, present, or future actions that come to light that demonstrate risk to our community or conflict with our values will result in immediate, permanent account termination without refund. Creating new accounts after termination is prohibited.
“Really? On AND Off the platform?” Yes, you read that correctly! Look, we’re not fussy about things like curfews or eating vegetables, but some rules (like treating each other with respect and keeping everyone safe by keeping predators off the site) are simply non-negotiable in any family!
With these important safeguards in place, we can all focus on what matters most: creating genuine family bonds in a safe, welcoming community.
4. Getting Started: Your Account
When you create your account, you’ll need to:
- Provide your real first and last name
- Share your actual age
- Verify your phone number and email address
- Be located in the United States
We have these requirements to help create a trustworthy environment for all our family members. Here’s why:
Your real name helps us maintain security. For the safety of the community and everyone within it, including you, we require your real first and last name during account creation. This information will remain private and will not be visible on your profile. Instead, you’ll choose a username that will be displayed publicly. If your circumstances change—such as marriage, divorce, or a name change—you can update your real name later in your account settings.
Your age verification ensures you’re over 18 (you can’t change it here, just like you can’t in real life!)
Phone number and email verification adds an extra layer of account protection. Rest assured this information, like your name and age, are kept confidential.
U.S. location helps us serve our intended user base.
One more thing about verification: while we ask for real information and will terminate any accounts we find that contain fake info, we can’t guarantee everyone will follow this rule or that we’ll find everyone who breaks this rule. We’ll do our best for sure! At the same time, by using Relative Choice, you understand that:
We take reasonable steps to encourage honest profiles but, ultimately, you need to make informed decisions about your safety and connections
5. Keeping It Real: Your Profile
Your profile is your introduction to potential family members, so keep it authentic! Photos are a critical part of your profile. Full Photo Guidelines can be found here at (link), but here’s the summary:
Photos must be:
- Rated G (think “family photo album” appropriate)
- Actually of you or your family (AI-generated images are not allowed – sorry, robot families!)
- Free from advertising or promotion
- Free from offensive, profane and illegal content
- Free from copyright infringement
- Photos you have legal authority to post
Pro tip: If you include photos with other adults, make sure you get their permission to do so, or blur their faces and other identifying characteristics. We strongly suggest getting written permission from other adults as, well, we can’t referee “he said, she said” situations when a complaint is filed. But you do you. If your photos include minors, we require you to be the legal parent or guardian of said children. We also strongly recommend blurring the faces of any munchkins under the age of 18 for their privacy and safety.
6. Building Connections Your Way
Relative Choice uses smart algorithms to suggest potential matches based on what you’re looking for and what you share about yourself. You can:
Set preferences for the type of family connections you want
Share (or not share) details about your background, beliefs, and interests
Search and connect with others directly, even if we haven’t matched you
We welcome ALL legal family structures and celebrate diversity in:
- Race and ethnicity
- Religion and beliefs
- LGBTQIA+ identity
- Cultural background
- Political views
- Physical or mental abilities
- Education and socioeconomic background
Remember: Having preferences is fine – discriminating or being hateful isn’t. We’re an inclusive platform, and we expect all members to treat each other with respect.
7. Protecting Privacy & Preventing Commercial Use
While Relative Choice is a public platform, we take privacy seriously – both ours and yours. Here’s what you need to know:
Your Privacy Responsibilities:
Never screenshot or share other members’ photos, profiles, or messages without their explicit written permission
Remember that verbal permission isn’t enough – we can’t referee “he said, she said” situations
Treat others’ personal information with the same care you’d want for your own
Absolutely Not Allowed:
- Data mining or scraping our platform for any purpose
- Using member information for marketing or business purposes
- Attempting to sell products or services to other members
- Promoting your business, even if mentioned casually (Example: “As a realtor, I’d love to help you find a home!”)
- Using the platform for business networking instead of building family connections
Breaking these rules will result in immediate account termination without refund.
If you’re interested in:
- Advertising opportunities
- Platform sponsorships
- Investment discussions
- Business partnerships
please contact us directly through our Customer Service Team. We welcome these conversations – just not through the platform itself.
8. Your Content and How We Can Use It
Let’s Talk About Content Rights (The Important Stuff About What You Share)

Your Content Is Yours:
- You own everything you create and share
- You must have the right to share anything you post
- You’re responsible for everything you share
- You must respect others’ privacy and content rights
But By Sharing It, You Give Us Permission To:
- Display your content across our platform
- Use it to help match you with potential family connections

- Use it to improve our services
- Promote our platform (though we’ll never share private messages for promotion)
- Edit or remove it if needed to protect our community
You Promise That Your Content:
- Is truthful and accurate
- Doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s rights

- Doesn’t contain anything prohibited (per Section 12 below)
- Won’t harm Relative Choice or other users

- Don’t use other users’ photos or stories elsewhere
- Remember that other users’ content belongs to them
Profile Visibility:
- Your profile and public content will be visible to other Relative Choice users
- Think carefully about what you share – while you can delete content, others might have already seen it
- We can’t guarantee that other users won’t share your public content outside our platform, though it’s against our rules
Our Rights:
- We can remove any content that violates our terms
- We can edit or decline to post content that doesn’t meet our standards
- We might need to disclose your content if required by law

10. Dispute Resolution
Let’s Talk About Solving Disagreements
We hope everything goes smoothly, but if there’s a problem, here’s how we’ll handle it:
First Steps:
- Contact our Customer Service team first
- We’ll try to resolve issues informally
- Many problems can be solved through simple communication
- Allow us 60 days to address your concerns
If We Still Disagree:
- Disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration
- This means a neutral third party decides, not a court
- The arbitration will be conducted by NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation)
- Arbitration is usually faster and less expensive than court
Important Points About Arbitration:
- You’re giving up your right to sue in court
- No class actions are permitted
- Each case is handled individually
- You can only seek relief for yourself, not others
- Small claims court is still an option for eligible cases
The Process:
- Send written notice of your dispute to: Relative Choice [Insert Address]
- Include your contact info and details about your complaint
- We’ll respond within 60 days
- If not resolved, arbitration begins
The Rules:
- Maryland law applies (unless prohibited by your state’s laws)
- Arbitration takes place in Prince George’s County, MD
- Virtual hearings may be available
- Each party pays their own costs
- The arbitrator’s decision is final
Special State Provisions:
- Some states have additional rights
- Check Section 9 for state-specific terms
- Some parts of this section may not apply in your state

- No sexual innuendos or suggestive messages
- No requests for private photos
- No romantic gift-giving or suggestions thereof
- No attempts to move platonic relationships toward romance
- No “testing the waters” for romantic interest
If it sounds like we mean business here, it’s because we do. Thank you for your understanding.
13. Limitation of Liability
The last two sections weren’t a ball of laughs and neither is this one. Meanwhile, we gotta do it. Healthy families have boundaries, right? Right. So here we go. Let’s Talk About Legal Responsibilities
While we work hard to provide a safe, effective platform, we need to be clear about certain limitations:
Relative Choice provides our services “as is” and:
- We can’t guarantee uninterrupted service
- We’re not responsible for users’ conduct
- We don’t guarantee matching success
- We’re not liable for relationships that don’t work out
- We can’t verify all user information
Our Liability Is Limited To:
- The amount you’ve paid us in the past 24 months
- No indirect or consequential damages
- No lost profits or data loss claims
- No claims for personal injury from user meetings
14. Intellectual Property Rights
About Our Platform and Content
Relative Choice owns:
- Our platform design
- Our logos and branding
- Our matching algorithms
- Our website and app features
- Our original content
You Can’t:
- Copy our features or code
- Scrape our data
- Reverse engineer our platform
- Use our intellectual property without written permission
- Create derivative works
15. Modifications to Service
About Changes We Might Make
We Can:
- Update features anytime
- Change pricing with notice
- Modify these terms
- Add or remove services
- Update safety protocols
We’ll Notify You Via Email:
- Before major changes
- Before price increases
- About term updates
- About new features
16. Indemnification
About Legal Protections
You agree to protect Relative Choice from claims arising from:
- Your misuse of our service
- Your content
- Your violations of these terms
- Your interactions with other users
This means you’ll cover our legal costs if your actions cause problems.
Remember: Our platform’s success depends on maintaining a strictly platonic, family-focused environment. We take this seriously and expect our users to do the same.
17. User Feedback Policy
Your feedback is invaluable to us! By sharing suggestions or ideas, you agree that:
- Relative Choice can use your feedback to improve the app without compensation
- We’ll respect your privacy and won’t share personal information included in your feedback
- Feedback helps us serve you better and make our community stronger
18. Additional Terms for We’re the Family You Need Community
The above Terms of Service apply to both the Relative Choice App and We’re the Family You Need community. However, the following additional terms and clarifications apply specifically to community members:
Platform and Governance:
- We’re the Family You Need is hosted on Skool, a third-party platform (think of them as our landlord – we rent the space, but we set the house rules)
- You must agree to Skool’s Terms of Service in addition to ours
- Where Skool’s terms are clear and applicable, those terms govern
- Our terms provide additional guidance specific to our community values and purpose where Skool’s terms are ambiguous
Geographic Access:
- The community is open to members worldwide (not limited to the U.S.)
- All community guidelines apply regardless of your location
- You must still be 18+ to participate (no exceptions, even if you’re “very mature for your age”)
Account Creation and Verification:
Account verification follows Skool’s standard process
You are not required to provide additional verification beyond what Skool requires
Real names are not required for display, though respectful usernames are expected (sorry, “TrollingForGrandmas69” won’t fly)
Profile Photos:
Profile photos (avatars) are optional
If you choose to use a photo, all photo guidelines from Section 5 apply (yes, including the “no AI robot families” rule)
You may use illustrations, characters, or other images instead of personal photos
- Subscription and Payment:
- Community membership is $5 per month unless you have a discount code (that’s less than a fancy coffee, and way better for building connections)
- Payment is processed through Skool’s payment system
- Cancellation follows Skool’s cancellation process
- State-specific refund rights (Section 9) still apply where applicable
Community Structure:
The community is organized into virtual “rooms” for different activities and discussions (kitchen, living room, den – you know, like an actual house)
No matching algorithms are used (this is a gathering space, not a matching platform – everyone’s invited to the family dinner)
Participation is flexible – engage when and how you choose (introverts, we see you and we love you)
All prohibited content and behavior rules (Section 11) still apply
Safety and Conduct:
All safety rules, zero-tolerance policies (Section 12), and behavioral expectations apply equally in the community
Remember: this is family time, not date night. Sexual harassment, romantic solicitation, and commercial activity result in immediate removal (and yes, we mean it – see Section 12 if you need a reminder about how serious we are)
Account termination decisions are made by We’re the Family You Need leadership and are final
Intellectual Property:
Skool owns the platform technology (they built the house)
We’re the Family You Need owns our community design, structure, and original content (we decorated and made it feel like home)
You own your contributions but grant us permission to use them as described in Section 8
All other terms in this agreement apply equally to both the Relative Choice App and We’re the Family You Need community. Now go enjoy your family!
Wow. That was a lot, right? Right. Someone in legal apparently had nothing to do last week. The main thing is that we’re all on the same page, that we respect each other, and that we’re here for the right reasons.
It’s now time to create the family you’ve been searching for. Guess what? We know they’re searching for you as well.
Good luck! We can’t wait to hear about your success.
